New Hampshire Makes it 6!

New Hampshire joins other New England States (And Iowa) in allowing gay marriage!

(Waiting on the Gov's signature, but it is an almost sure thing now that he got what he wanted.)

Update: He signed: The law will take effect in January, exactly two years after the state legalized civil unions.

This is great news… and despite the temptation to gloat about it to all those horrible people who spent last Tuesday laughing at me, I won’t.

Well, ok I will.

This means that almost all of New England is an Equality Zone! Good for you New England ! Now to lean on Rhode Island a bit to make it a full region thing….

Rhode Island, actually, might not be that far away. According a poll done last month, the majority (a good sized majority at that) support allowing same sex marriage.

Also in RI lawmakers plan to vote Wednesday on a bill that would force health insurers to provide infertility treatment to unmarried people and gay couples, a proxy in the larger fight over gay marriage. Which is not only great news, but also gives me the chance to do a shout out to John and Steve who are a gay couple trying to have a baby. Follow their adventures over at the John and Steve Are Having A Baby! Blog.

So which state out here on the West Coast will be the first to jump on the equality bandwagon? Only time will tell.

This is a great way to start off the month of June, which is Pride month. There are rumors about some big White House announcement regarding the LGBT community that is supposed to come this month… again, we will wait and see…

But New Hampshire? Way To Go!!!!!

This is great news. I hope that it doesn't take forever for the rest of the country to figure it out. Of course, I don't hold out much hope for my own region. We'll be last on board, I guess.

I was sorry to hear about the ban being upheld in your great state. But hey, at least you've got medical marijuana. ;)
