I know you are probably tired of hearing me beg for money for this cause… but I just wanted to give a quick recap and send out some thanks.
The group met up at the Ferry Building yesterday morning and after we got ourselves all signed in and outfitted with the very brown (who chose brown?) official Walk-A-Thon tee shirts…. we set off on the walk!
(Yes that is my official Skepchick bag)
It was a bit over 3 miles… something I could do in about 45-50 minutes depending, but of course this was a mammoth group of people chanting, hooting, hollering, and such and so it took us closer to two hours.
We wound our way through the city passing through some rather sketchy neighborhoods… Stacy my Walk-A-Thon buddy was quick to point out the streets that one should never be on at night, or alone, or anywhere near without an escort.
I was shocked at how many people were there, (a lot of guys!) humbled by the fact that I seemed like one of the eldest people there, and for the most part quite taken with a few of the chants;
Don’t touch me there,
My private square
Get your hands away from me
There were even some home-made tee shirts
I don’t know how much was raised in total, but I do know that those of you who donated via my personal fund raising page helped me gift more than $700!
Which is… wow.
My original goal was 200 bucks… thanks to the generosity of my family and friends, the amazing Skepchicks, the magic of Twitter, and the awesomeness of all the people who follow Bad Astronomer…
So… let me send out a thank you to the following people.
The Bad Astronomer
Grandma and Grandpa Bartel
Again, thank you all!!
